breast feeding babies
If you ever want to get people worked up, talk to them about breast feeding babies. Though almost everyone knows that this is the best thing you can do for your baby, there are many who simply think it is something to be hidden, and should not be done in public. Those of us, both moms and dads, who have had children in our houses know that babies need to eat quite often, and that you never know when you will have to stop what you are doing to feed your child. Does that mean a mom who breastfeeds should be locked up at home until weaning?
There are many health benefits for breast feeding babies, but the public seems to shy away from any display of breast meant for this purpose. The irony of that is that this is what the breast was built for. Our society has spent so much time sexualizing the breast that they are embarrassed when it is used for its real purpose, but have no issues with low cut dresses and even strippers. It makes no sense to me. Those who have breast feeding babies certainly dont want you staring at them, but they do want you to know they are caring for their babies, and this is one of the most natural things you can do.
Those who have breast feeding babies should not have to worry about people freaking out when they feed their children. Most of them are aware that it makes people uncomfortable, but they also know that breast feeding is more important than what other people think. Some like to use blankets to shield their child and their breast, but they do that more for other people than themselves. Even those who are normally very shy will not have issues taking breast feeding babies out with them. Its everyone else who has the problem.
There are some places who have special areas just for breast feeding babies, but you shouldnt use them if they are not comfortable and clean. If someone makes up a special place that is intended to give you privacy and comfort, that is one thing, but if someone throws you in a corner out of embarrassment, you dont have to go there. You can do what you have to do discretely in almost any public place. If the looks bother you, use a blanket, but remember, your babys health is more important than what some random, uptight stranger thinks.
