System Restore
There is nothing that will make my hair turn white more than when someone says that I need to do a system restore. To me, this means erasing every thing on my computer to reinstall the basics. This is enough to make anyone freak out. Though I am good about saving my work, there are other things that I don?t want to have to give up. It?s hard to get all of my favorites back, and it is a huge pain to reload all of the software that I use, and got put all of my pictures back on my hard drive so that I can use them when I need them.
There are two ways I know to do a system restore. One is the best way, but it doesn?t always work. If you system has a go back feature of some sort, you should make sure it is always on. If something goes terribly wrong, you should try to use that system restore to go back to a point before something went wrong. You will lose anything you have saved in between the two time periods, but it is far better than erasing everything on your computer and starting all over again.
The other system restore will wipe everything out, and you will have to start all over again. It?s a pain, and you may even cry as you do it. Sometimes though, this is the only choice you have. If you can, save what you need before you do the system restore, but you should know that this is not always possible. Save to CD or disk and hope that it saves properly. Once you put in the system restore disks you are going to have a fresh slate. Your computer will be as it was when you bought it.
If you want to avoid using the system restore, you have to make sure you take care of your system. Avoid viruses and keep your anti virus software working and up to date. Don?t download anything from an unknown source, and keep a back up of everything that is important to you. You can keep your pictures on your computer, but make sure you have a copy of them on a CD in case something happens. Also remember to use system restore as a final resort.
