Bed rails
When my daughter started to climb out of her crib at almost two years of age, I decided she was ready for a toddler bed. I was a bit paranoid about the possibility of her falling out of bed because she's a very restless sleeper. I knew that I needed to find a toddler bed that had bed rails or purchase bed rails separately. But, there was no way she was graduating to a bigger bed until I was secure in knowing that there would not be any thuds in the night. I searched around on the internet looking at toddler beds and was very happy to see that the majority of them did have bed rails built onto the actual bed. That would make life so much easier for many parents out there.
We headed for a local department store that I knew had a large assortment of toddler beds. We told her that she could choose her own bed since this was a big step for her. After picking out several and then changing her mind, she finally settled for a Disney Princess bed. It had cute little pink bedrails on the side, which allowed us to be quite happy with her bed choice. She couldn't wait to get it home and for us to put it together. I was actually dreading putting it together and hoping that my husband would be able to do it quickly and painlessly. I certainly didn't want my daughter picking up any new vocabulary words from him.
Putting the bed together was very simple. She dove onto it immediately and declared that she loved it. I was hoping that meant that she would have no issues transitioning to sleeping in it at night. I also showed her the bed rails and explained that they would help her to not fall out of bed. She didn't seem to care about them. Hours later, her bedtime had arrived and she was eager to sleep in her new bed. I was hoping that the enthusiasm would still be there in the middle of the night if she decided to wake up. I had my fingers crossed that she wouldn't end up walking around the house at all hours. She climbed into bed and we went through her bedtime rituals. I was sitting on the floor next to her bed and had a little bit of a problem leaning over the bed rails. I certainly wasn't complaining since I knew that they were there to keep her safely tucked in. Out of maternal instinct, I placed some pillows next to her bed. Just in case.
