It might not be a sign of the times, but for better or for worse, the for dummies books are around and are here to stay, and that is that. If you do not know about the books for dummies, think of this. Remember the last time that you were in a bookstore (I hope that it has not been all that long for you). There was probably a bright yellow, big paperback that you passed in the self-help section while you were on your way over to look at thrillers or science fiction. That is one of the books for dummies. They are written on any conceivable subject that most people might want to know about. From building a house to business, to drawing, to relationships, there are books for dummies that tell it all.
It is pretty funny that you could call a book for dummies, and people would go out and buy it. I mean, it seems to insult the reader even as they pick up the book. But that is just it with books for dummies. They are a really cleverly marketed series, if you think about it. They are not there for experts in an area, but for people who are either new to whatever it is, or who at least feel kind of clueless about it. The books for dummies are there to help you learn a few basics about something that has always interested you, or always been important, but that you have not really had the time to fully figure out on your own. If you pick up one of the books for dummies, you can expect to get a good lowdown on all of the basics in a particular area in a way that is so well laid out that even, well, dummies could figure out what is going on. It is hard to overstate the usefulness of books for dummies. They are really gems in a world of confusing self-help.
Of course, reading books for dummies does not actually make you a dummy. Quite the opposite in fact. Books for dummies are the first step in learning about something that you have been a dummy about up to that point. Of course, they really are not designed to make you an expert in a field, but books for dummies can contain a surprising amount of information. Not only will they tell you how to do whatever they are written about, but they will tell you about history, and related information as well.
