Web Addresses

As the Internet grows, so does the demand for web addresses. I often think that there are just so many sites out there that there must not be any good addresses left, but that is far from the truth. If you have an idea in mind for your site address, you probably won?t have a problem getting what you need, and if you can?t get it, you can probably get something close that will work out just as well for you. The problem is knowing if you have the right address. There are also some bad people out there who mess with links, and you have to be careful what you click one. Tricky business, right?

When choosing web addresses for business purposes, the best ones you can get are the ones with your company name in them. You may find that it is not available, which may cause problems for you. If you have a sensitive business, this can cause problems you may not have considered. People often type in web addresses as they remember them, and if they are even a little off they can be taken to somewhere they never thought they would end up.

A good example of this is the Wiggles. They had the address www.thewiggles.com.au, but most people would just type www.wiggles.com. The second of those two web addresses used to take you to a place that is far from anything the Wiggle?s wanted to associate with, if I remember correctly. I made that mistake once myself. I don?t know what happened, but I think the Wiggles now own both of those web addresses and the problem has been solved. You want to check at any addresses that are like yours to avoid embarrassing problems. Sometimes, as with the Wiggles a few years ago, you may not be able to do anything about it.

Along the same lines, watch out what links you click when you open an email. Some people will give you a link that is supposed to go to a certain place, like Paypal for example, but instead takes you to a number of different web addresses meant to lift your password and username so they can rip you off. When you are confronted with these links in an email, simply hold your mouse pointer over the link and look at the bottom of your browser. This should show you the true web addresses you will be going to. When in doubt, always open a new browser and type in the real address to the site just to be sure. If you see nothing there, you know you were the target of a scam.
