The beginning of summer brings the time that new college graduates are out looking for jobs. Several of them will begin the hunt for advertising jobs, as you can obtain one with a variety of degrees ranging from communications to English and everything in between. Advertising jobs always seem to be alluring because of the fast pace and excitement, along with the creativity the job field allows. However, finding advertising jobs can be quite frustrating mainly because there are few of them and several people are trying to get them.

Many college students decide during school that they would like to pursue advertising jobs after graduation. Ideally, this is when you should decide because you are able to apply for internships with local advertising companies. These internships serve two very important purposes; one, it helps students learn the business before actually applying for paying jobs and employers find this experience quite valuable when looking through resumes for advertising jobs. Two, many internships turn into real job offers as the internship comes to a close. During internships companies get to know an interns working style and whether or not they would be a good fit for the company. In their eyes, it is much less of a gamble to hire someone they have some knowledge about than hiring strictly from a resume and interview like a traditional job candidate.

If an internship is not able to be obtained during schooling, advertising jobs are still within reach. There is much advice around that suggests making yourself stand out from the crowd with your resume. This is unproven, but in a creative field such as advertising it may help you get your foot in the door. Doing things like creating a puzzle out of your resume and adding a cute tagline of I am the missing piece to your companys puzzle can either impress the company with your innovation or can turn them off because they do not thing you would be a serious worker. It is quite a gamble, but it has worked for some people trying to obtain advertising jobs in the past.

In the end, advertising is a very competitive field. It may take months, even years, to get into a position that you want to be in and it may require taking a position at the bottom rung and moving your way up. With hard work and determination, getting advertising jobs can be possible, and once you are in the door you can let your creativity and ability shine.
