birthday ideas 19 by Article Announcement

It seems that the older a person gets the more important it is to celebrate your birthday. It also seems that the older we get the less we want to be reminded about the passage of time. This is usually caused because we do not do enough each day to achieve the dreams and goals that we have set in our lives. I have found that the time before and after my birthday is the time that I do the most reflecting about what I have done so far and what I will in reality accomplish in the years that I have remaining. There are some years when this can cause me some depression. A few years ago I decided that I needed to write down serious goals that I want to achieve and give myself a time frame to complete them. I now include this goal setting in the birthday ideas that I come up with for myself as well as family members and friends.
In the past my birthday ideas would include presents and a cake as well as the favorite meal of the person that was celebrating the day of their birth. This provided a nice day for the person, but it did nothing to help them grow as a person. Now I do a few more things that help the person reflect on what they want to accomplish and encourage them to set goals for the upcoming year. This may sound philosophical, but I have had friends and family members thank me for helping them make changes in their lives as a result of the birthday ideas I have challenged them with.
When we are young we have goals that are set for us and time tables to complete them in. These goals and time frames are set up by others for us. Our children are told how many credits they need to complete and the time they need to complete them in order to obtain a high school diploma. This process is repeated for those that go on to obtain a degree of higher education. As we complete our degree we have a goal of what type of employment we want, but when we get to that point our goal setting often ends. By encourage people to think of goals and dreams once a year helps us from feeling that life is passing us by.
My birthday ideas to help others with this goal setting is to give each person I know a journal every year for their birthday. I also will give another present depending on the relationship I have with that person. On the cover of the journal I write the year and also a phrase or quote that I find helpful in my life. I know that there are people that I share the journals with that never open them or use them as scratch paper, but my hope is that some day seeing the journal will trigger the person to set goals for themselves. Birthday ideas so not have to include tangible gifts. I think the gift of helping others be the best person they can be by setting goals is a wonderful thing to give.
